History House Zoudenbalch:
In the center of Utrecht there is a unique monument on the Donkerstraat which has certainly caught your attention if you walked along it. This beautiful city castle on the Donkerstraat was built in 1467 on behalf of Evert Zoudenbalch. After that it had various destinations, as a chaplain building and secretariat of the Catholic church, craft school and warehouse with showrooms of middle classes, with last, until 2008, resident the Foundation Nature and Environment. In 1903 the building was destroyed by fire. The characteristic neo-Gothic façade of Namur stone, battlements, cross-bar frame, stained glass windows with red shutters, everything has been restored in original style during the renovation. In 2011 Huis Zoudenbalch was completely renovated and converted into a complex with 24 unique apartments. The apartments are all different and completely isolated. There is a communal courtyard and a central bicycle storage.
