Nearby are the Westerpark and a nature reserve (where you can sunbathe and picnic) with a petting zoo and play pond. In the Westergasfabriek cultural park there is also a cinema, theatre and food and dance venue.
In the Jordaan (5 minutes away) you will find cosy restaurants and cafés. There is a wide variety of shops and facilities (such as a gym, primary schools) in the immediate vicinity. For your daily shopping you have the shops in the Van Limburg Stirumstraat.
The shopping streets Haarlemmerdijk and Haarlemmerstraat are also nearby, as well as the (Monday) market, many sports clubs, gyms, the Bredius outdoor pool and the Marnix swimming pool.
