History of the building:
Between 1600 and 1608, Willem Hendricksz, chairman of the wine merchants' guild, commissioned the construction of this house, along with an adjacent warehouse and coach house. Its waterfront location allowed ships carrying French wine to unload directly at the quay. The building is an example of Dutch Renaissance architecture and is notable for its traditional timber framing—a rare construction method for urban buildings around 1600. This construction contributes to its status as a national monument.
