What is a shared living group (*woongroep*)?
In a shared living group, the residents maintain a sustainable, communal household.
Shared living groups allow more than 2 people to live together in a single home.
No room-rental permit is required. There is no specific permit or registration for shared living groups. The municipality determines whether a living arrangement qualifies as a shared living group by looking at how the property is used. During inspections, an officer checks the following points:
The residents living at the address intend to stay for the long term, rather than just for the duration of (part of) a study program. Therefore, a group of residents where half or more are students does not qualify as a shared living group. (So, in a group of 5 people, at least 3 must be employed, and there may be a maximum of only 2 students!!)
All residents live in the same home and share all costs.
There are no parts of the home reserved for the exclusive use of a single person. There are no locks on the bedroom doors.
There is one kitchen clearly suitable for shared use.
There is one living room clearly suitable as a communal area for all residents.
Household expenses are shared among the residents.
