THE FORM OF THE PAST
Villa Beaulieu was built in 1906 by contractors T. and J.E. Meerdink. They also designed the inspired design, with attention to elegant detailing without frivolities. Large, solid, but nonetheless with an almost un-Dutch elegance. The building has two floors, covered with a shallow hipped roof. All facades are plastered, and the cornice along the gutter and dormers is decorated with fretwork. The asymmetrical front facade steps tiered forward and has French doors in the front part, which can be reached via a four-step staircase. At the far left is a veranda with a balcony placed above it, and next to it the entrance in a rounded arch porch.
From 1938, the house belonged to the writer Fré Dommisse (1900-1971). She hosted literary meetings there at which Simon Vestdijk also made an appearance. The surrounding garden is carefully maintained and bordered on one side by mature trees providing plenty of shade and privacy. A long row of pleached linden trees at the front and side emphasize the stately appearance of the villa.
