About Beek
Beek, known locally in Limburgish as Baek, is a village in the south of the Dutch province of Limburg. It is the main town of the municipality of Beek and has approximately 12,470 inhabitants. Larger towns near Beek include Geleen and Stein.
The name “Beek” originates from the Keutelbeek stream, which runs through the village. The earliest human settlement is therefore likely to have developed along this stream.
Beek is an urbanised village with both rural characteristics, such as narrow streets and old farmhouses, and urban features, including busy roads and high-rise buildings. The village is surrounded by both countryside and urbanised and industrial areas.
