This apartment is rented out on the basis of a contract for a fixed period of 12 months, under the student scheme of the Fixed Rental Contracts Act.
This means that the apartment is only available to students moving to The Hague for their studies from another municipality or from abroad. We are legally obliged to verify this. The following documents are required with your application:
Proof of enrollment at a recognized educational institution (MBO/HBO/WO) for the academic year in which the tenancy commences
Proof of your current address outside the municipality of The Hague: a BRP extract, or for an address abroad, equivalent proof of enrollment, supported by a rental contract or recent energy bill. Documents may not be older than three months
Valid proof of identity
Additionally, a residence permit from the municipality of The Hague is required for this apartment. You must be eligible for this.

Why do I have to prove that I am moving from outside The Hague?
Under the Fixed Tenancy Agreements Act, a fixed-term tenancy may only be offered to specific groups, including students who move to another municipality for their studies. As the landlord, we are obliged to check and record this.

I am coming from abroad and do not have a BRP extract. Can I still apply?
Yes. In that case, you provide an equivalent proof of your current registration or address abroad, supported by, for example, a tenancy agreement or a recent utility bill.

Do I need a housing permit?
Yes. A housing permit (huisvestingsvergunning) from the Municipality of The Hague is mandatory for this apartment, so you need to qualify for one. You apply for the permit yourself with the municipality, and we supply the details and documents you need for that application. You can only move in once the permit has been granted.

Can the contract be extended after 12 months?
Once the fixed-term tenancy has ended, an open-ended tenancy agreement is the only form that can be offered, and only if both parties wish to continue.
