The Scheepvaartkwartier or Nieuwe Werk is a district in Rotterdam located on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas. The district is bordered to the north by the Westzeedijk, to the east by Zalmhaven and Zalmstraat, to the south by Willemskade, Westerkade, and Parkkade, and to the west by Parkhaven. The Veerhaven and the nearby Parklaan, with its monumental architecture from around 1900, form the center of the Scheepvaartkwartier. The Caland Monument, which commemorates engineer Pieter Caland, is located on the Veerkade. The white, monumental buildings on the Westerkade (actually Javastraat and Zeemansstraat), built in an almost colonial style and dating from ca. 1865, are among the most beautiful in the district.

The Scheepvaartkwartier is a protected urban landscape and is therefore a National Monument. With 98 of the more than 500 national monuments in Rotterdam, the Scheepvaartkwartier is a treasure trove of cultural heritage. New construction took place in the late 20th century, and several exclusive restaurants established themselves in the district. On the east side, the Zalmhaven was filled in in 1991 for the construction of the Erasmus Bridge. The mooring points for Spido and the Waterbus are located on the Willemskade. Also worth seeing is the restored Westelijk Handelsterrein warehouse complex.
