History of the building:
The water tower from 1875, designed by city architect C.B. van der Tak, had a reservoir of 1 million liters of drinking water, the largest in the Netherlands at the time.[2] The construction of a pipe system for the transport of clean water was an important means in the fight against cholera and other infectious diseases. The Rotterdam Water Supply Company (DWL), established in 1874, moved in 1977 to Schaardijk next to the Van Brienenoord Bridge and has since merged into water company Evides.

The tower (partly a restaurant now), the pump houses, and other outbuildings were declared a national monument in 1981.
