Sittard
Sittard (Limburgish: Zitterd) is a city in Dutch Limburg, located in the transition area between Central Limburg and the South Limburg hill country. It is one of the oldest places in the Netherlands and the second oldest city (with city rights) in Limburg.
Since 2001, Sittard has formed the municipality of Sittard-Geleen together with the south-western adjacent Geleen, located in the former Western Mining District, and several smaller places, including Born. Due to this merger, the municipality of Sittard-Geleen has become the third largest by population (approx. 92,661) in the province.
The original hinterland of Sittard forms the historic Land of Zwentibold around the Graetheide.
