History
The building dates back to 1844 and served as a cigar factory. The building is best known for the erratic boulder chained to the corner of the building. This was laid down as a bollard and thus gave the property its name.

There are several legends surrounding ‘De Gesloten Steen’ (The Closed Stone). One of these legends claims that the devil and his servant were tossing this stone back and forth at night between the nearby Geertebrug and Vollersbrug. If they missed, the stone would hit the ground with such a thud that the houses would shake to their foundations. Consequently, the boulder was chained up (closed) to put an end to the trouble.
