MARNIXKADE 56-3 – AMSTERDAM AT YOUR DOORSTEP

Space, luxury, views and tranquillity, right in the heart of the city. This apartment of approximately 164m² occupies the top three floors of the building on the Marnixkade. From the living room you look out over the canal, while at the rear you look straight into the Jordaan. With four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a balcony and a private roof terrace, there is plenty of space to live, work and entertain guests. The first level holds the bright through-lounge, above it the bedroom floor, and at the very top a flexible room with access to the roof terrace.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
The Marnixkade runs along the Singelgracht canal, on the western edge of the Jordaan. We call this "Amsterdam at your doorstep": step outside and the city starts right away. On Saturdays you can walk to the Noordermarkt, on Mondays to the vintage market, and the Lindengracht and the Westerstraat each have markets of their own.
The Jordaan is home to a mix of born-and-bred Amsterdammers, young professionals and internationals. You will find small boutiques, traditional brown cafés and good restaurants, and whenever you want more space, the Westerpark is a short walk away.

  • Shops and supermarkets: Albert Heijn on the Westerstraat is within walking distance. For shopping, the Haarlemmerstraat and Haarlemmerdijk are close by.
  • Cafés and restaurants: Winkel 43 on the Noordermarkt (famous for its apple pie) and Café 't Smalle on the Egelantiersgracht.
  • Schools and childcare: the Theo Thijssen primary school is approximately 350 metres away.
  • Parks and green spaces: the Westerpark with the Westergas cultural park is within walking distance.
  • Public transport and accessibility: trams 3 and 5 and buses 18 and 21 stop around the corner on the Marnixstraat. Amsterdam Central Station is approximately 5 minutes away by bike.

LAYOUT
The entrance to the apartment is on the second floor.

Third floor
This floor holds the spacious through-lounge with an open kitchen and cooking island. At the front you look out over the canal, at the rear you step out onto the balcony overlooking the green inner gardens. This floor also has a study and a storage cupboard under the stairs.

Fourth floor
From the landing you enter the master bedroom with walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom with shower, bathtub, toilet and double washbasin. This floor also has the second bedroom and the second bathroom, with shower, toilet and washbasin.

Fifth floor
The top floor holds the fourth bedroom, with connections for a washing machine and dryer. It also works well as an extra study, home office or guest room. Sliding doors lead from here to the roof terrace.

OUTDOOR SPACE
The balcony at the rear overlooks a green courtyard with gardens and trees, away from the bustle of the canal side. The roof terrace at the top is your own outdoor space above the city.

HISTORY
The Marnixkade runs along the Singelgracht, the outer canal of the 1613 city expansion. On its inner side once stood an earthen city wall with bastions and windmills. Where the wall used to be, the Marnixstraat now runs. In 1872 the street was named after Philips of Marnix, Lord of Saint-Aldegonde: writer, statesman and confidant of William of Orange, often mentioned as a possible author of the Wilhelmus, the Dutch national anthem.
