Schinnen (or Sjènne, as the Limburgers call it) is a small village in the south of Limburg with a rich history. In addition to remains of a temporary settlement of hunters from the last ice age, relations with the Romans, and the passage of Charlemagne, the first gang of Bokkenrijders also originated in the hamlet of Wolfhagen, near the Putherberg on the northwest side of Schinnen.

Today, the quiet village of Schinnen has about 2,750 inhabitants and is part of the municipality of Beekdaelen. The typical South Limburg landscape in the outskirts of Schinnen is known for its beautiful, rolling landscape. Ideal for a nice cycling trip or a wonderful walk, during which one can also gain historical knowledge of the Bokkenrijders' history on one of the Bokkenrijders routes.

In addition to a supermarket, a farm shop, and a bakery, there is also a general practice and physiotherapy available in Schinnen.
