Description

DESCRIPTION

This charming and light-filled apartment is located on a very lively and popular street in De Nieuwe Pijp, an area where neighbours, shop owners and restaurant owners still know each other. While centrally located and full of character, the apartment sits just far enough from the main tourist crowds.

The apartment is furnished in a classical and cosy style, featuring antiques throughout. Most of the furniture was purchased at Dutch auction houses, giving the home a warm, authentic atmosphere. The apartment is not designed as a luxury hotel, but as a comfortable and well-loved home.

  • Available for approximately 6 months, up to approximately 2 years, extendable by mutual agreement
  • Fully furnished

  • Rent can be agreed either inclusive or exclusive of internet & television and gas, water and electricity, depending entirely on the duration of the rental agreement

LAYOUT & WALK-THROUGH

NB! – New layout

The apartment has recently been rearranged. The furniture has remained the same; only the layout has changed. The written description below is accurate. Photos will be updated mid-January.

Entrance

The apartment is accessed via a shared entrance. A fairly steep, straight staircase divided into two sections leads to the second floor. Upon arrival, you enter a small hallway, from where you access the kitchen and main living area on the right.

Kitchen & Living area

The main living space consists of an open-plan kitchen and living room with direct access to a west-facing balcony — a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine at sunset.

Master bedroom

Through en-suite doors, you enter the master bedroom, which has a smaller balcony overlooking the street. This is a pleasant place for a morning coffee. As with any vibrant city location, it is generally quiet, but it may not be ideal for extremely sensitive sleepers.

Children’s room / office

Passing through the master bedroom, there is a cosy room with a desk and WiFi, or suitable as a bedroom for a primary-school-aged child. A children’s bed is not standardly available; please ask about the options.

Bathroom

The modest bathroom is accessible from the hallway and is fitted with a loo, walk-in shower, towel radiator and washbasin.

Guest / teens / dressing room

Next to the bathroom is a versatile room that can be used as a dressing room, guest room or children’s room (also suitable for a teenager). This room faces west and overlooks the trees of the inner courtyard.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

  • Gas & electricity, WiFi and television: €250 per month
  • (can be included or cancelled and arranged by the tenant, depending on rental duration)
  • Cleaning: €100 per month

GOOD TO KNOW

  • The staircase is steep and there is no space downstairs for a pram; therefore less suitable for people with children under approximately 2.5–3 years
  • The apartment has a modern central heating boiler, professionally serviced on a yearly basis (mandatory). The boiler is located in the guest room; this room is ventilated and a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector is in place
  • Hygiene is taken seriously: all bedding, including mattresses, cushions and duvets, are professionally cleaned. Three layers of bedding are always used. Cleaning is mandatory every two weeks on Tuesday morning and is carried out by the same trusted cleaners; payment is made in cash by the tenant
  • The guest room bed is adjustable (80–160 cm) with thin mattresses; suitable for short stays and children, but less ideal for long-term adult use
  • The apartment is furnished with antiques; these items are not new and show signs of use. Tenants are kindly asked to treat them with care.
  • Wide-angle photos may make the apartment appear slightly larger

PLEASE NOTE

De Pijp is extremely popular today, but it was originally a working-class neighbourhood, and the buildings do carry sound, mainly when noise levels increase. The building is residential, and the walls are not designed to absorb loud late-night noise. This apartment is therefore a comfortable home rather than a luxurious hotel with the latest renovations and luxuries.

If you are coming to Amsterdam with a nightlife-focused, party-oriented or luxury-focused lifestyle in mind — including late-night gatherings or after-parties — this apartment may not be the right fit.

The neighbours on the 1st and 3rd floors are people with whom there is a good and valued relationship, which is important to maintain. They are considerate, for example, they walk the stairs and close doors very quietly after around 22:00; the same consideration is expected from future tenants. Of course, the apartment is not a monastery: dinners can take place and music can be enjoyed — just not too loudly, preferably indoors rather than on the balcony, and without strong bass. Ultimately, it is a matter of being considerate of one another.
