With the departure of the last orphan, both the function and the historical interior of the centuries-old orphanage disappeared. Hendrick de Keyser has restored the complex in phases over the past few years, made it more sustainable, and has tried to bring back its history as much as possible. The last phase, the south wing, has been completed. Six homes are available here, including the home at Lindenhof 14.
Restoration
The exterior (facades, frames, and roofs) has been fully restored. Inside, the structure and layout have been renewed, with references to the historical interior. Sustainability has also been a strong focus: the outer walls are insulated, there is monument glass installed, and the interior walls are made of timber frame construction. All units have modern installations such as underfloor heating, new kitchen, bathroom and toilet, six solar panels, WTW ventilation, and a heat pump. Thanks to these measures, the homes and the commercial space are completely gas-free and have at least an energy label A+.
Location:
Lindenhof is located in the historic heart of Schiedam, within walking distance of public transport, the NS train station, various shops, and entertainment venues. In the immediate vicinity, paid parking applies. A parking permit can be applied for at the municipality.
Layout of Lindenhof 14:
This 76 m² home is entirely on the ground floor and is accessed via a shared entrance. There is consideration for low thresholds and wide doors for good accessibility.
