HISTORY
The Zuiderzeelaan takes its name from the former Zuiderzee, the inland sea that bordered Waterland and Landsmeer for centuries, until it was closed off by the Afsluitdijk dam in 1932 and became today's IJsselmeer lake. Landsmeer itself is a centuries-old peat-reclamation village, formed as a long ribbon along the water — a character still tangible in the watery landscape surrounding the village.
